Yes it is, As a mechanical engineer it has been used by me for different places. Like it was used to do the finite element analysis of the truss in the 5th semester where the analysis problem can be solved by writing them in the form of matrices and performing various operations to obtain the final result.

Beside this it is a very easy tool for plotting data also where you can plot a bunch of data as i have used for the plotting of torque transmission by clutch by using design of clutch by uniform pressure theory and uniform wear theory.

I inserted all the data in MATLAB and got myself a nefty looking 3D graph.

all the data tabulated and all but they just looked like numbers. If you held those tables in your hand it would still take you around 30 minutes to study through the data and make a vague sense of it all.
